The blue double circle drawn at the bottom of the bottle and the cup is called Janome (snake eye). These snake-eye sake cups were initially made for sake tasting - the white part of the cup is used to observe the sake's colour and shades, while the blue is used to assess its transparency.

Sake with high viscosity contains more sugar and extracts and has a more complex flavour. The clearer the colour, the cleaner and more refined the taste of the sake.
So, the snake eye isn't just a design; it was specifically made to make sake tasting easier!  
This set originated in Mino in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Mino-ware is the most popular style in Japan, accounting for 60% of the country's ceramics. Mino-yaki is valued for its beauty and durability, making it popular for everyday use and, of course, special occasions.
