Kikue Tomimoto, the third generation of original pottery in Tokoname City, Japan, makes 80% of Japan's ceramic Maneki Neko (Beckoning Cat).
The uniqueness of her cat is recognized by its large, round black eyes and the perfectly proportionate head-to-body ratio.
From shaping the clay to painting it, all the steps are carefully handcrafted by Kikue and her staff in the studio.
The Maneki Neko, usually a calico cat, raises its right paw for wealth and left paw to attract people, often seen in shops. In ancient Japan, black cats were also symbols of good luck and were believed to ward off evil with their night vision.
