Donabe (Clay pot) is a traditional ceramic stone bowl with handles and a lid used to make nabe (Japanese hot pot). Donabe can be used for a wide variety of dishes, including rice, stews, soups, braised meat, or even instant ramen! The pots are made with a particular type of clay that can withstand heat, so the meals are usually cooked and served directly at the dining table.
Size: 19.5 x 22 x 11.5cm 800ml (Size 6: Serves 1 person)
Some tips for cooking with Donabe:
-Heat gradually: start on low heat and slowly increase the temperature to avoid thermal shock.
-Donabe can be used over a gas stovetop, an open flame, or even in an oven!
-Place the lid on top while cooking your favourite ingredients on the stovetop to allow the heat to distribute evenly and faster.
-The pot will be extremely hot after cooking, so make sure to use oven mitts when handling.
-Never place the pot directly on the table while still hot - place a trivet underneath to prevent damaging table surfaces.
-Don't put it in the fridge while it's still hot: avoid sudden temperature changes as this can cause cracking.
-Sautéing/frying (like deep-frying and pan-frying) is not suitable with Donabe as the pot should not be heated while empty.
