"Tenugui" is a traditional Japanese towel used for anything—as a washcloth or dishcloth, but often as a tapestry, decoration, quilt, headband, souvenir, or for wrapping items such as bottles.
The feature is dyed up from white cotton cloth. Enjoy the beauty of Japanese traditional Nassen Tenugui. Please note that Tenugui has unfinished edges on top and bottom.
HAMAMONYO's Nassen is 'Yokohama's traditional Nassen dyeing' process. High-quality Nassen techniques have been cultivated over years of silk scarf dyeing using dozens of colours and dyes. HAMAMONYO's textiles are created for design using Nassen print blocks and dyes on original cotton cloth. Several more processes are needed to express delicate patterns, colour distinction and unique tint. The textile hardly fades and can be well used by patiently applying these processes. Exclusively produced cloth is bleached according to Japanese methods, resulting in the best texture that comes from natural fibres. Although it is challenging to dye cloth bleached according to Japanese methods without the skill of an experienced veteran, such obsession creates the unique texture of HAMAMONYO textiles.
