The Seven Gods of Fortune (Shichi Fukujin), commonly called the Seven Lucky Gods in English, refer to the seven gods of good fortune in Japanese mythology and folklore.

In Japan, Red sea bream(Pagrus major) is known as Madai (Tai) and is prized both for its flavor and for its traditional use as an auspicious food often served at New Year's and festive occasions such as weddings.
